World Junior Hockey: 

(Gold medal game in Halifax)

Canada  3  Czechia  2  (OT)

Dylan Guenther scored his second goal of the game in overtime to give Canada back-to-back titles for the first time since 2009.

Connor Bedard did not get a point in the final but was named tournament MVP.

The Regina Pats captain set a new Canadian record for career goals scored at the World Juniors with 17 tallies.

Bedard also established a new Canadian mark for career points at the World Junior Championship with 36 points.

In addition, the 17-year-old from North Vancouver recorded the most points by a Canadian player at any single World Junior Championship with 23 points (9G-14A).

WHL:

The Prince George Cougars host the Everett Silvertips tonight and Saturday.

The (17-17-1) Silvertips are 4th in the Western Conference, but just a point ahead of the (16-16-1-1) Tri-City Americans and the (14-16-4-2) Vancouver Giants and two in front of the (15-16-3) Cougars.

BCHL:

The Prince George Spruce Kings host the BCHL-leading Penticton Vees tonight and Saturday.

The (16-11-2-1) Spruce Kings are 4th in the 9-team Interior Division while the (29-2) Vees have won five in a row after starting the season by winning their first 24.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18 male)

The (5-12-1) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars visit the (4-17-0-1) Thompson Blazers Saturday afternoon at 2:15 in Kamloops and Sunday morning at 10:00 in Chase.

The Cougars are riding a 10-game losing streak.

Cariboo is 7th and Thompson 8th in the nine-team U-18 Division.

(U18 female)

The (6-11-2) Northern Capitals play four games this week at the league showcase in Richmond.

The U-18 female Caps face off against the (17-0) Fraser Valley Rush this morning (Friday) at 10:00 and later battle the (1-17-2) Greater Vancouver Comets tonight at 6:00.

They also meet the (8-9-0-1) Thompson-Okanagan Lakers Saturday afternoon at 1:45 and the Comets again Sunday morning at 8:00.

Canada West Basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves host the Manitoba Bisons in Canada West basketball tonight at 5:00 and 7:00 and Saturday night at 4:00 and 6:00.

The women tip off first followed by the men.

UNBC is 5-3 (men) and 1-7 (women) while Manitoba is 7-1 (men) and 0-8 (women).

NFL: 

The NFL has announced that the Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals game that concluded Week 17 will not be resumed and has been cancelled.

Week 18 of the NFL season starts with a pair of games on Saturday: Kansas City at Las Vegas (1:30) followed by Tennessee at Jacksonville (5:15).

14 games are on the menu for Sunday including the night matchup of Detroit at Green Bay.
