WHL:

Prince George Cougars  6  Calgary Hitmen  5

The Cougars trailed 5-3 with 14 minutes left in the third before scoring three times in eight minutes.

Both Koehn Ziemmer and Jaxsen Wiebe notched two goals and an assist for the Cats with Wiebe getting the winner with 5:18 remaining.

Prince George is 2-2-1 on a 7-game road trip that continues Friday in Red Deer and concludes Saturday in Edmonton.

The (18-19-4) Cougars are 6th in the Western Conference standings two points behind Tri-City and three back of Everett.

On Tuesday, the Cougars lost 5-2 to the Tigers in Medicine Hat.

Steven Stamkos tallied a hat trick, including his 500th career goal, to lead the Lightning who led 4-0 after one period.

Stamkos is the 47th player in NHL history to reach 500 goals.

The (18-23-3) Canucks host the Colorado Avalanche Friday night at 7:00 and the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night at 7:00.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18 male)  

The (8-13-1) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the (4-19-0-1) Thompson Blazers in Fort St. James Saturday night at 6:30 (outdoor game) and Sunday morning at 10:30 (indoor game).

Cariboo is 7th and Thompson 8th in the 9-team division.

(U18 female)  

The (8-16-2) Under-18 female Northern Capitals host the (10-10-0-2) Thompson-Okanagan Lakers Friday night at 6:30 in an outdoor game in Fort St James.

The two teams also meet Saturday morning at 10:00 in Vanderhoof.

Thompson-Okanagan is 3rd and the Capitals are 4th in the 5-team division.

BCHL:

The BCHL will hold its East-West All-Star game Friday night in Penticton.

The (18-13-2-1) P.G. Spruce Kings are off until they host the (14-16-1-3) Trail Smoke Eaters in a triple-header Friday and Saturday night (January 27th and 28th) at 7:00 and Sunday afternoon (January 29th) at 3:00.

In the 9-team Interior Division, Prince George is 4th and Trail is 8th.

Skiing:

The Under 23 Nordiq Canada Selection Trials and Nordiq Cup, hosted by the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club of Prince George, continues today and Friday before concluding on Saturday.

Competition for the 165 skiers, including 13 from P.G., began Wednesday morning with the Individual Sprints.

Canada West Basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves host the Winnipeg Wesmen in Canada West basketball Friday and Saturday.

The men play Friday at noon and Saturday at 3 p.m. while the women battle at 5:00 p.m. on both of those days.

UNBC is 5-7 (men) and 4-8 (women) while Winnipeg is 9-3 in both divisions.
