In women’s action, Sveta Boykova came through went it mattered most for the T-Wolves, notching a 31-point, 13-rebound effort, giving UNBC a 90-71 win on Saturday over the Bobcats.

UNBC (8-12) converted on nearly half of all of its field goals against Brandon (49.3%), which also included a 17-point contribution from Rebecca Landry who went 7-for-9.

Reetta Tulkki and Piper Ingalls each had 18 points in defeat for Brandon who finished 1-19 on the season.

On Friday, the Bobcats collected their first win of the season, edging UNBC 82-79.

Ingalls proved clutch for Brandon notching a game-high 24 points. In addition, Chlesey Misskey pitched in with 18 points including a 6-for-16 performance on field goals.

Alina Shakirova tallied 23 points in defeat for the Timberwolves. Boykova recorded another double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

UNBC will now play the Fraser Valley Cascades (14-6) Friday at noon in Edmonton in a Canada West play-in game.

In men’s action, UNBC was swept by the Bobcats by scores of 93-84 (Friday) and 116-93 on Saturday.

Fareed Shittu collected 20 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat while Sultan Haider Bhatti also tallied 20 points for the Bobcats.

Brandon had five players with double-digit points.

In the second half of the doubleheader, the balanced attack by the Bobcats again proved too much as they had six players in double-digits including Anthony Tsegakele.

His game-high 28 points came in just 19 minutes of action, which included an 11-for-13 performance on field goals.

Evgeni Baukin continued his recent stretch of stellar play for the Timberwolves collecting 19 points off the bench (9-for-12 on-field goals).

58 of UNBC’s 93 points were scored in the paint.

The (8-12) Timberwolves now head to Victoria for a Canada West play-in matchup against the Regina Cougars (10-10).

The tip-off on Friday is at 5 pm Pacific.
