PG road crews anticipating another busy pothole season

The snow is still on the ground but city crews are already getting a head start on pothole season in Prince George.

Last year, city crews filled 75 hundred potholes, slightly lower when compared to 2021 where 7,700 were filled. In both cases, that’s a far cry from 2015 when city crews filled an astounding 20-thousand.

Manager of Roads and Fleet, Jordan Wiseman explained to Vista Radio where they are in terms of their preparation.

“We have fired up our asphalt recycler in anticipation of the local asphalt plants opening up in late April or early May. So, we are mixing recycled asphalt and crews are in full swing dealing with the potholes.”

Wiseman added they have already received quite a few requests from residents.

“To date, we have received 177 requests for potholes to be filled and we have responded and filled 265 as of last night. We will be out on the street on the day and afternoon shifts today (Friday) before starting up again Sunday night.”

“We have dedicated pothole crews with two pothole patching trucks that are out on all three shifts and now we have our asphalt crew utilizing the recycler where we have a recycled hot mix, which is a lot better than the cold patch we do use in the winter,” added Wiseman.

Residents can report potholes by dialing 311 or emailing [email protected] to submit a service request.
