Spruce Kings drop tight game 1 to Salmon Arm

It was a goaltending battle in Salmon Arm last night, that saw the Silverbacks leave with a 2-1 win for a 1-0 series lead over the Spruce Kings.

Jordan Fairlie stood tall in the Spruce Kings net early, stopping all 15 shots he faced in the first period – keeping the game 0-0.

Prince George only mustered 5 shots in the first, but tripled that for 15 in the second.

The teams traded goals in the period, Ullrick opened for the Silverbacks at 7:04, John Herrington answered back at 14:08.

Salmon Arm’s Isaac Lambert scored the eventual game winner at 4:25.

On the scoresheet, the 2-1 game could not be much more even.

Both teams registered 35 shots, both teams were 0/3 on the powerplay.

Matthew Tovell and Jordan Fairlie, the two goaltenders, were named the game’s first and second stars.

The Spruce Kings will look to even the series tonight at 6:00 before returning home for games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
