Will a 101-year-old temperature record fall in PG on Saturday?

It will feel a lot like summer this weekend in Prince George.

According to Environment Canada, daytime highs on Saturday and Sunday are predicted to reach 23 degrees.

Not bad considering the weather pattern has been below seasonal since February.

Meteorologist, Armel Castellan spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“This is ten degrees above seasonal – arguably maybe even 11 at some moments at the peak of Saturday and Sunday there.”

He added the northern capital could see a 101-year-old temperature record fall by the wayside.

“In 1922, it was 23.9 degrees – so that is kind of the lowest temperature maximum for the end of the month with the 29th being Saturday, that will come close. We will have to see if you overachieve on Saturday and that would be a record.”

However, Castellan mentioned the ridge of high pressure can also present its fair share of challenges.

“There is the implication that at this time of year, there is if locations aren’t quite greened up from the growth in the spring and a lack of snow at the lower elevations then it’s always a cause for some concern when it comes to grass fires.”

Until then, predicted highs are expected to be in the 16-20 degree range tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.
