PG’S NEW DISTRICT TEACHER’S ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT TO TACKLE ISSUES

The head of Prince George’s District Teachers Association believes some critical issues need to be addressed.

President, Richard Giroday says one issue stands out the most.

“Really support for children and their learning and that continues to be one of the major concerns that teachers in our province have and it’s a concern for the many parents who are very informed or aware of what’s going on in the classroom.”

Giroday also says dipping into surpluses is a losing formula when it comes to balancing the orgnanization’s books.

“We know we have a very serious underfunding issue the district has had to dip into the surpluses for a number of years now and those are non sustainable ways in balancing a budget.”

Giroday also expressed concern over the facilities report.

Some of the major issues include the closing of schools, changing of boundaries and moving of programs.

Giroday was appointed president of the PGDTA in April and began his new job this week.
