City of PG closes Cottonwood Island, Paddlewheel Parks due to seasonal flooding

Several parks and trails in Prince George are closed this week due to seasonal flooding of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers.

According to the city, the affected areas are:

  • Cottonwood Island Nature Park
  • Paddlewheel Park
  • Heritage River Trail from Cameron Street to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park

Residents are asked to stay away from riverbanks, creeks, and fast-flowing bodies of water as they are extremely dangerous.

Avoid recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, boating, or hiking near high streamflow rivers or streams, which can easily trap even strong swimmers and increase drowning risks.
