No sunshine, no problem for Cruisin’ Classics Show n’ Shine

Car enthusiasts braved the rain in Prince George today (Sunday) for the annual Cruisin’ Classics Father’s Day Show and Shine.

Hundreds of vehicles lined Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park as their owners showed off their prized cars.

One of the classic cars on display was James Kuharchuk’s 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340.

“[It] was the biggest option you could get on a 70 Dart, was the 340 engine, it’s classified as a small-size muscle car,” Kuharchuk said.

He bought the car at a used car lot in Kamloops back in 1976.

“We were just burning through town, I seen it and I bought it. It was our daily driver until 1982.”

Kuharchuk said he’s always liked old Dodge cars, and while the Dart is his only car right now, he’s had a few over the years.

“This is the only car I have, this is the queen,” he said with a chuckle.

The show and shine wasn’t just for the classics, as newer vehicles, such as Scott Wasson’s 2010 Chevrolet Camaro with an interesting wrap.

“It changes color, it used to be silver, but now it’s purple, kind of spectrums in the light,” he explained.

“It kind of changes between red, blue, yellow and orange, depending on the sunlight.”

Wasson has been a car enthusiast since he was young.

“My dad’s always built cars and had cars, so when I was older and had a credit, I decided to get myself into it,” he said.

“I have a son myself so I’m going to try to make him into it too.”

There were also some vehicles dating back 65-million years ago, or vehicles at least decked out to look like they’d fit in that time.

Steve Penney built his 2012 Jeep Wrangler into a Jurassic Park build.

“It was more of a spur of the moment kind of feeling, just woke up one morning and really wanted to do a movie vehicle,” he explained.

“Jurassic Park is what I already had, I had the Wrangler. It’s been a slow build, really extensive.”

He said he’s swapped out almost every body panel, redone the drive train, some engine work, custom paint work, and if he were to list off every bit of work he’s done to it, we’d be there all day.

He added it’s a past time of his to work on vehicles, but there’s no plans to work on another movie build.

“I’d love to do a DeLorean, but they’re a little too expensive to pick up.”
