There was heavy police presence along Massey Drive and Highway 97 at around 6:00 last night (Wednesday), with Massey Drive being closed off from Pine Centre Mall to Masich Place Stadium.
This was all caused by a report of a woman carrying a handgun in the area, which was made shortly before 6:00.
According to Corporal Jenn Cooper, “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of the public, those people in Carrie Jane Grey Park and the surrounding public venues were asked to leave the area and traffic along Massey Drive was shut down for a short time. A police dog service team was called in to assist frontline police officers with the search.”
The woman was not found, however, police say they did find the handgun – which was a replica, and not real.
Investigators are still hoping to speak to the suspect, who has been described as:
- Approximately 5’6” in height
- Wearing blue jeans and a black hoody
- Long, died blonde hair
Anyone who knows who the woman is, has dashcam footage, or any other information is being asked to contact the RCMP.
