City seeks grant to conduct Complete Community Assessment

The City of Prince George is seeking a $150,000 grant to make the city a ‘more complete community’.

At tonight’s (Monday) meeting, City Council voted in support of applying for the grant administered by the Union of BC Municipalities.

The provincial government provided UBCM $10 million to distribute the grant.

The money would be used for a Complete Community Assessment, which is intended to support community planning processes.

According to a report presented to council, City Administration is proposing to use the process to collect and analyze data that could be used to support and enrich the Official Community Plan (OCP) update project.

Director of Planning and Development Deanna Wasnik noted a presentation on the status of the OCP review is expected in September.

“I think this is a good news story, and an opportunity, if we’re successful, to undertake this work is incredibly important,” said Councillor Tim Bennett.

Other items discussed at tonight’s meeting include a ‘best practices’ update from bylaw services, and an asset management strategy update.
