The building lull that’s been happening in Prince George continued in June and July.
According to a report that will go before City Council on Wednesday, 56 building permits were issued in June, worth a combined total of $10.3 million.
In the same month in 2022, 59 permits worth $14.6 million were issued.

For July, there were more permits issued in 2023, but at a value far less than in 2022.
Last month 39 building permits were issued worth $8.4 million, compared to 35 permits worth $43.7 million in July 2022.

The City of Prince George has issued a total of 220 building permits in 2023 so far, worth a combined total of $81.1 million.
Some of the biggest decreases for permits this year as compared to last year include new commercial buildings, and new single-family dwellings.
Through the first seven months of 2022, ten permits worth $32 million were issued for new commercial buildings and 59 permits worth $32.7 million for single family dwellings.
So far this year, only two permits for new commercial buildings have been issued worth a combined total of $2 million, and 35 permits for single-family dwellings worth a combined total of $17.6 million.
More permits for new multi-family dwellings have been issued this year, but they’re worth much less than the year before.
One area that did see growth was new duplexes.
20 permits have been issued for new duplexes so far this year, worth $5.2 million.
