Labour Day celebration held in Canada Games Plaza

A celebration of Labour Day was held in Prince George today (Monday).

“It means everything from a 40-hour work week to having weekends off and stats, to the labour movement and what it does,” said Matt Baker, Chair of the Labour Day Organizing Community.

Several organizations and unions from around P.G. were on hand.

“Today’s just a day to celebrate labour and the labour movement,” Baker said.

“We want to give back to the community so we have a bunch of different organizations and unions here to come on out and have some fun.”

Around 75 people took part in a march through downtown Prince George as part of the event.

Baker estimates there are around 8,000 unionized employees in the Prince George area.
