Group of PG physicians raising concerns over Anti-SOGI rally

Updated 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 20th:

A large crowd gathered outside of Prince George City Hall this morning (Wednesday), calling for the elimination of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity curriculum from schools.

It was part of the 1 Million March 4 Children protests happening across Canada.

Speakers at the event said they not “anti-anything”, but they’re pro-family, pro-choice, pro-honesty, pro-humanity, pro-religious rights, pro-unity, and pro-parental voices.

The protesters were met with messages supporting the LGBTQ+ community written on the sidewalk around City Hall in chalk.

A counter-protest is planned in the same location later this afternoon, starting at 4:00.

Original Story:

A group of physicians in Prince George, calling themselves PG Physicians Against Hate, is raising concerns about rallies taking place across Canada, including one in Prince George.

The 1 Million March 4 Children will happen outside of Prince George City Hall this morning (Wednesday) starting at 9:00.

According to the march’s website, they’re advocating for the elimination of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) curriculum, pronouns, gender ideology and mixed bathrooms in schools.

“We believe in the importance of letting children grow and explore naturally. Children are naturally curious and imaginative,” the website’s Frequently Asked Questions page reads.

“Our concern is that certain decisions, especially those that have permanent, life-changing consequences, should be made when an individual is mature enough to fully grasp their implications.”

They’re also encouraging students to participate in a nationwide school walkout today.

In a news release, PG Physicians Against Hate said the movement behind the protest is spreading dangerous and harmful rhetoric.

“A solid body of reputable evidence shows that gender-affirming care can save lives, significantly improve mental health, and reduce suicide attempts,” the release stated.

“Contrary to common misconceptions, gender-affirming health care is a gradual, patient-led, and largely reversible process. Support at school and at home are crucial for the wellbeing of trans youth and children, as with all children.”

This afternoon (beginning at 4:00), a “No Space for Hate” counter-protest will be held at Prince George City Hall, which Prince George Physicians Against Hate is supporting.
