Big weekend for Zac Funk who is WHL Player of the Week

The first Player of the Week in the WHL this season goes to a Prince George Cougars sniper.

Zac Funk led all skaters with seven points (3 goals and 4 goals) in two games against the Tri-City Americans.

The 20-year-old Funk notched a hat trick and added two assists in the PG 9-0 victory (Friday).

The next night (Saturday) he picked up two assists in the Cougars’ 6-4 loss to the Americans.

Funk was originally selected in the second round of the 2018 WHL Draft by the Calgary Hitmen and was acquired by the Cougars in a trade in January of this year.

In 162 career WHL regular season games with the Hitmen and Cougars, the 6-foot-0, 210-pound forward has recorded 111 points (55G-56A).

Funk and the Cougars return to action on Friday in Victoria in the first of a doubleheader against the Royals.

Forward Riley Heidt is back with the PG Cougars.

The 18-year-old Heidt was returned to junior after playing in one NHL pre-season game with the Minnesota Wild.
