Major League Baseball:

New York Yankees  2  Toronto Blue Jays  0

The (87-70) Blue Jays, with five games left, host the (80-77) Yankees again tonight (Wednesday) and Thursday (both start at 4:07 PT).

Toronto will conclude the regular season with three home games Friday (4:07 PM PT), Saturday (12:07 PM PT) and Sunday (12:07 PT) against the (6-62) Tampa Bay Rays.

The Blue Jays sit in the second wild-card spot in the American League, 1 1/2 games ahead of the (86-72) Houston Astros and 2 in front of the (85-72) Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners ended a 4-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 6-2 victory over the Astros.

The Chicago Cubs lost 7-6 to the Atlanta Braves Tuesday night.

The (82-75) Cubs hold the third and final wildcard spot in the National League, just half a game ahead of the (81-75) Miami Marlins.

Jared Young of Prince George has not played for the Cubs in their last three games.

The 28-year-old Young has a .205 batting average (with a pair of homers and eight RBIs) in 15 Major League games this year with Chicago.

 

NBA:

 

Soccer:

The Canadian women’s soccer team qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics following a 2-1 Tuesday victory in Toronto over Jamaica.

The 10th-ranked Canadian team beat No. 37 Jamaica 4-1 on aggregate to earn the last CONCACAF entry in the 12-country field for the Games.

Canada won the first game 2-0 in Kingston, Jamaica on Friday.

The Canadian women have competed in the last four Olympics, winning gold in 2020 in Tokyo.

 

WHL:

The (1-1) PG Cougars visit the (0-2) Victoria Royals on Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars went 8-0-0-1 in nine meetings last season against the Royals, including 4-0 in Victoria.

The Cats will have both goalie Ty Young and Riley Heidt in their lineup after both were returned this week from NHL camps.

The 19-year-old Young has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Canucks.

BCHL:

The (0-1) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (1-1) Chilliwack Chiefs Friday night at 7:00.

Lheidli T’enneh is partnering with the Spruce Kings and Four Rivers Coop to host the home opener.

The game is dedicated to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (which is Saturday).

The Spruce Kings also entertain the (1-1) Merritt Centennials on Saturday afternoon at 3:00.

Canada West Soccer: 

The UNBC Timberwolves will be on the road in Canada West soccer this weekend.

The (2-5-2) UNBC men visit the (5-1-2) Victoria Vikes on Friday night and Saturday night at 7:15.

The 0-7-1 UNBC women visit (4-3-2) Victoria Friday night at 5:00 and the (2-3-3) Mount Royal Cougars Sunday at noon (PT).

NFL: 

Week 4 of the NFL season starts Thursday night at 5:15 (PT) with Detroit at Green Bay.

Both teams are 2-1.

There are three teams 3-0: Philadelphia, San Francisco and Miami.

There are four teams at 0-3: Chicago, Minnesota, Carolina and Denver.

CFL: (Week 17)

The (10-4) B.C. Lions host the (6-8) Saskatchewan Roughriders Friday night at 7:30.

The Lions are tied with the (10-4) Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the top spot in the CFL West Division with each team having four games left prior to playoffs.

The Blue Bombers entertain the (12-1) Toronto Argonauts Friday night at 5:00 (PT).

B.C. will also host Winnipeg on Friday, Oct 6th, visit Hamilton on Oct 13th and entertain Calgary to conclude its regular season on Oct 20th.

BC Football Conference: (BCFC)

The (2-5) Prince George Kodiaks host the (5-1) Okanagan Sun Saturday night at 7:00 at Masich Place Stadium in their final BCFC home game of the year.

The Kodiaks will conclude with a pair on the road: October 7th at Okanagan and October 14th at Kamloops.
