Search warrant leads local Mounties to catching suspect in Buckhorn area

The Prince George RCMP arrested one person in relation to a second assault investigation over three days in the city.

This morning (Monday), a search warrant was executed on the 5300 block of Buckhorn Lake Road.

The suspect was known to police for other violent criminal offenses and investigators determined they would utilize the North District Emergency Response Team to help ensure public and police safety.

“Out of an abundance of caution for staff and students a hold-and-secure was put in place at Buckhorn Elementary School around 10:30 a.m., as the location where the search warrant was being executed was close to the school. We know that this can cause stress for those involved, as well as for families of those at the school, and we want to assure the public this was done out of extreme caution and not as a result of a direct risk to the school,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The hold and secure was lifted at the elementary school shortly after 12:00 p.m.

Investigators are expected to be at the residence for some time yet today.

On Friday, the Prince George RCMP arrested another suspect following a violent assault on 2nd Avenue that led to the victim being transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Both files are not connected.

The investigation remains ongoing.
