Slow start to the holiday season for Operation Red Nose in Prince George

Operation Red Nose provided 38 rides home during the first weekend of the holiday season in Prince George.

“It was a little bit slow, but we had reasonably good response,” said Ken Pendergast, Co-Chair of Operation Red Nose Prince George.

“There seems to be fewer and fewer people out partying and utilizing the services of Operation Red Nose, I think the taxis were busy and that’s a good thing.”

During the first weekend of operation last year, the service gave 44 rides home.

Despite the slow start to the season, Pendergast said he’s expecting much higher use of the service in the weekends to come.

“There was fewer parties in the last week of November here,” he explained.

Operation Red Nose will operate again this coming Friday and Saturday, and as well as the following two Fridays and Saturdays (Dec. 9th, 10th, 16th, and 17th) and New Years Eve.

“We anticipate that there will be much higher use on those weekends here in December,” Pendergast continued.

“We’re pleased the public in Prince George are utilizing the service and promoting the safe ride home concept, either with Operation Red Nose or with other services like having their own driver or using a taxi service.”
