Prince George Red Nose rides more than double week-over-week

Operation Red Nose provided 38 rides in Prince George over the November 23 and 24th weekend.

Last weekend, they topped that number on both Friday and Saturday.

Ken Pendergast, Co-Chair of Operation Red Nose Prince George, told My PG Now the weekend was “quite a bit better,” with nine teams on the road giving rides.

“We did 45 rides on Friday night and 49 rides on Saturday night,” he said.

Not only is that up from the week prior, it is up year-over-year as well – Pendergast said the second Saturday of last season only saw 38 rides.

“The numbers are [still] lower than they used to be,” he explained, “but we blame that typically on the fact that people are still getting back in the groove from covid.”

Pendergast expects the demand for rides to increase as the holiday season continues, as will the need for volunteers.

Potential drivers can get more information on volunteering here – Pendergast said any volunteers need to complete a criminal record check first.

He also thanked the RCMP, who were helping raise awareness for Red Nose during their CounterAttack road checks.
