Canada Post reminds local residents to clear snow, ice as delivery agents deal with holiday rush

Mail carriers in Prince George will be put to the test this holiday season with an influx of parcels arriving over the next few weeks.

With this in mind, Canada Post is reminding residents to clear away any snow or ice and to provide a clear pathway for mail carriers to deliver their packages.

Local CUPW President, Rick Harris told MyPGNow.com any cooperation shown by the public will go a long way to preventing any slips and falls.

“Our carriers are packing a lot more mail than they normally would and as safe as they try to be, they do have to deliver as many of those within the hours that they can. They are probably moving a little quicker pace and sometimes it is hard to see the ice underneath the snow.”

Other tips to help keep our people and visitors to your home safe:

• Remove snow and ice from your walkways, driveway, and around your mailbox, and apply sand or salt.
• Keep your stairs, handrails, and mailbox free of obstructions and in good repair.
• Turn on outdoor lighting to keep pathways and stairs visible.

In addition, if you’re sending a parcel by regular mail all local packages should be in the mail by December 19th, (provincially December 14th to 19th and if you are sending packages across Canada, it suggests no later than December 18th).

If you’re willing to spend more money on priority delivery December 21st is the cut-off for on-time delivery.

For Christmas cards sent within Canada, the deadline is December 19th.
