As of this afternoon (Thursday), 75% of the tickets to the Prince George Cougars’ annual Teddy Bear Toss game have been sold.
That is according to Cougars’ Director of Business Taylor Dakers, who said the annual fundraiser could be flirting with a sold-out crowd.
“Tickets are moving really fast,” he said, adding “our last few weekend games we sold over 1,000 tickets on gameday itself.”
While Friday’s crowd is not expected to be a sellout crowd, Dakers is still anticipating a full house.
“Whatever the numbers are, they are moving in the right direction and we are really excited about it.”
As fans across the league know, the Teddy Bear Toss supports the Salvation Army and the Children’s Miracle Network.
When the Cougars score the first goal of the game, the crowd will shower the ice with stuffed toys and warm clothing.
Dakers did not have the exact number of items thrown on the ice and donated last year, but assures fans “it was a lot… and I think this year is going to be even better.”
The Teddy Bear Toss will be game 2/2 against the Victoria Royals this weekend, following the doubleheader’s first game on Friday.
The Cougars lead the BC Division, Western Conference, and entire WHL in the standings right now with a 21-7-0-0 record, while Victoria enters the weekend 17-11-0-2, second in BC – 6 points behind the Cougars.
That’s not all, Dakers pointed out Cougar forward Riley Heidt leads the entire CHL in points (53 in 26 games), forward Zac Funk is tied for the CHL goal lead (30 in 28 games) and has the most powerplay goals (19), and rookie goaltender Josh Ravensbergen leads the entire CHL in save percentage (.944), goals against average (1.63), and shutouts (5) in his 14 games played.
“Everybody is contributing, both goalies are getting wins,” Dakers said. “Everybody is rolling. We are playing great hockey and it is an exciting place to be.”
“I have seen a lot of people talking online about filling this building and supporting this group,” he continued. “That’s what we want. The boys want that, the team wants that, the business wants that.”
There will also be a food drive at the CN Centre, fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to each of the Cougars’ four home games in December.
