Could a 93-year-old temperature record fall in PG today?

It continues to be shorts weather in Prince George.

According to Environment Canada, our daily high for today (Monday) is 12 degrees – the record high for January 29th is 12.2, set back in 1931.

Meteorologist, Alyssa Charbonneau said while this puts the northern capital on the verge of breaking a temperature record, the late January warmth is something to be impressed by.

“Our normal for this time of year is minus three degrees Celsius, so we are about 15 degrees warmer than normal, and certainly our overnight lows as well such as tonight where it could reach plus nine for this time of year is quite warm,”

Charbonneau added preliminary data suggests Prince George did not break the highest minimum temperature record overnight only reaching 5.5 degrees – the mark is 6.7, which was also set back in 1931.

After today (Monday), temperatures will moderate a little before it gets cool again this weekend.

“It’s not going to be as extreme, still warm, still mild and above normal with a high of plus five in the forecast for tomorrow with an overnight low of zero. It will still be mild but not as extreme over the next few days and then as we get into the weekend, we see temperatures returning closer to seasonal values.”

On Sunday, the daytime high is predicted to reach minus seven.
