City Council hears update on Downtown Strategy and Implementation Team

Prince George City Council received an update on the Downtown Strategy and Implementation Team at Monday’s meeting.

The strategy for supporting business and development was developed in partnership with Downtown Prince George.

A consulting firm was hired to support public engagement, strategy development, and recommendations to implement the strategy to achieve Council’s objective.

“It’s certainly an exciting for us item that would have all of the City of Prince George, Tourism Prince George, Downtown Prince George, and the Chamber [of Commerce] at the same table to discuss the implementation of the strategy being led by Downtown Prince George,” said Director of Planning and Development Deanna Wasnik.

“Depending on the work item or strategy item we want to tackle, we may also pull in other community organizations or members to help inform whatever item that might be.”

“It really is a phenomenal document, I really think it’s going to change downtown and bring a lot of vibrancy to it,” said Councillor Cori Ramsay.

“I am especially excited about the concept of the downtown street teams, I think this is going to be a really great collaborative opportunity between the City, Downtown, and community partners.”

It was noted there was no timeline as to when the team would be established, but an update on the strategy will come back to council by the end of the second quarter of this year.
