58 lane kilometres of road rehabilitated in Prince George in 2023

At Monday’s meeting, Prince George City Council received an update on the City’s Road Rehabilitation Program for 2023.

In 2023, the City of Prince George rehabilitated 58.49 lane kilometres of roads.

In 2023, $6.1 million was marked for road rehabilitation.

Last year, the City’s Road Rehabilitation Program consisted of:

  • 24.83 lane-kms of thin-lift overlay
  • 32.24 lane-kms of mill and overlay
  • 1.42 lane-kms of pulverize and pave
  • 2,182 metres of concrete sidewalk rehabilitation
  • 1,115 metres of asphalt sidewalk rehabilitation
  • 485 metres of new concrete sidewalk

Councillor Ron Polillo said the feedback he’s heard from the community on the work done has been positive.

“In particular, the Ospika job was done I think really efficiently and really well in such a high traffic area and how it was managed,” he said.

“We would love to spend more money but it’s a delicate balance. Maybe that’s something we can look at at budget time for next year, increasing the budgets for sidewalks and roads.”

For 2024, the Road Rehabilitation Levy has been prepared at $6,700,000, which is an increase of $600,000.

This increase is to keep pace with the rising costs of asphalt, labour and fleet expenses.
