The Prince George RCMP says no criminality is suspected after a Prince George boy was struck by a passing vehicle on the 36-hundred block of Winslow Drive in the Hart on Tuesday afternoon.
“The young boy was struck as he crossed the road after exiting a City bus, which was stopped at a bus stop on Winslow Drive at Kim Place. Police officers attended the location and spoke with the driver of the vehicle involved, who is cooperating fully with the police investigation. Our thoughts are with the young boy and we wish him a speedy recovery,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.
The investigation has now concluded.
Amanda Keller, who organized the Go Fund Me page told MyPGNow.com when these incidents happen to people you know, it can be a very jarring feeling.
“I was there when Jaxon was born. He is my nephew. I was in complete shock, I was scared and I was freaked out. I think instant adrenaline kicks in and you are in disbelief – you can’t understand why it happened and then you hear the injuries and can’t help but fear the worst.”
“I am grateful it wasn’t a truck (that struck him). Had it been any higher of a vehicle this could be an even worse situation – he just got off the bus and went around it to cross and it happened.”
The post states he was soon airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital where a specialized pediatric trauma team is working to treat and monitor his extensive injuries.
The injuries were multiple broken bones including his clavicle, rib, and a severe femur fracture.
He has a small brain bleed, laceration to his liver, a partially collapsed lung along with scrapes, cuts, and bruises.
“His femur is broken and that is the longest and strongest bone in our bodies. To break that bone only happens due to extreme force and trauma,” added Keller.
Jaxon is waiting to be taken into surgery.
The funds raised will help cover accommodations, meals, and lost income as they focus on Jaxson’s care and recovery.
She reminds motorists to pay attention, slow down and be mindful when travelling to and from your destination.
“People are always in a hurry. You are in a hurry to get home, you are in a hurry to get here, you are in a hurry to get there and that might not be everybody but I myself have been guilty of that. You have to be more focused when you are on the road when you are operating a vehicle – lots of things can happen.”
