Fans gather to welcome Cougars back to Prince George ahead of Monday’s game 6

The Prince George Cougars convincingly avoided elimination from the playoffs last night, beating the Portland Winterhawks 6-1 in game 5 and sending the series back north for game 6 and potentially game 7.

This will be only the second time in Prince George Cougars history that the Cats have made it this deep into the postseason – in 1997, they fell to the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-1 in game 6 of the Western Conference Final in the CN Centre.

Their other two runs to the Conference Finals (2000 and 2007), they were eliminated in five games.

Fans took note of the Cougars’ gutsy effort in Portland last night, the majority of tickets for Monday’s game were snapped up in mere minutes of going on sale at 11:00 this morning.

Many of those fans stuck around after grabbing their tickets to welcome the team back to the CN Centre after a 13 hour journey back from Portland that started right after the game ended last night.

The bus arrived at around 12:30 this afternoon and was given a police escort to the CN Centre once it hit city limits.

The Cougars will fight to stay alive once again on Monday in the CN Centre in game 6 against the Winterhawks.

Prince George trails the Hawks 3-2 in the best of seven series, losing games 2, 3 and 4 after shutting Portland out 5-0 in game one.

If the Cougars are successful on Monday, game 7 will be played under 24 hours later on Tuesday.

Rest assured tickets will move even faster if that is the case.
