PG RCMP arrest three youth during grocery store theft, assault

A shoplifting and assault investigation remains open according to the Prince George RCMP following an incident at the Save-On-Foods Pine Centre Mall location.

On Tuesday, May 21st, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Mounties were called to the grocery store to investigate a report of shoplifting by some youth.

When officers arrived at the location, Loss Preventions Officers (LPOs) at the store reported two youth were involved in attempting to steal some items. When the LPOs stopped them, they were subsequently assaulted by two previously uninvolved but associated youth, one of whom began throwing items.

“An off-duty police officer who was in the grocery store at the time witnessed the Loss Prevention Officers struggling to take the youth into custody and assisted in arresting one of the youths. On their arrival, Frontline police officers arrested two of the youth for theft and one for assault. They were subsequently transported to the Prince George RCMP detachment where they were held in custody until they could be picked up by their guardians,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

One of the youths responsible for assaulting the Loss Prevention Officers remains outstanding.

No injuries were reported to police officers following this incident.
