UNBC Timberwolves:

Longtime NHL executive Brian Burke is coming to Prince George.

Burke will be the keynote speaker during the 10th annual UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Night on November 21st at the Civic Centre.

Since its inception, the Legacy Night has helped raise more than $740,000 for
scholarships and bursaries for UNBC student-athletes.

Tickets go on sale starting September 6th.

 

Speed Skating:

17 long track speed skaters, including Carolina Hiller of Prince George, have been named to Canada’s National teams for the 2024-25 season.

In February, the 27-year-old Hiller, a former member of the PG Blizzard, was part of the Canadian women’s sprint team that finished first at the world championships in Calgary.

NBA: 

Basketball Hall of Fame player and executive Jerry West has passed away at age 86.

West was an All-Star every year of his career and led the LA Lakers to the NBA Finals nine times, winning one title in 1971-72.

Game 3 in the NBA championship series will be played this evening (Wednesday 5:30) in Dallas.

The Boston Celtics lead the Mavericks 2-0, winning the first two games by scores
of 107-89 and 105-98.

NHL:

The scene shifts to Edmonton for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final Thursday night (start time just after 5:00).

The Florida Panthers lead the Oilers 2-0, having outscored Edmonton 7-1 over the first two games.

The Panthers won 4-1 on Monday.

Florida won the the opener on Saturday 3-0.

CFL: 

The (0-1) B.C. Lions are gearing up for their sold-out home opener on Saturday (4:00 PM) against the (1-0) Calgary Stampeders.

Week 2 of the CFL season begins Thursday with (0-1) Winnipeg at (0-0) Ottawa (4:30).
