UNBC Timberwolves unveil 2024-25 basketball schedule

The Canada West Basketball season may still be four months away but the countdown to tip off has begun.

For the UNBC Timberwolves men’s and women’s varsity teams, it means a very road-heavy start to the 2024-25 campiagn.

Both teams will begin play November 1st in Kelowna against UBC Okanagan before returning home to face the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack at Northern Sport Centre two days later (November 3rd).

After back-to-back road trips to Victoria and Regina, UNVC will cap off the pre-Christmas schedule with home double-headers against UBCO November 22nd and 23rd.

The Timberwolves cap off the regular season at home February 14th and 15th against UBC.

Last season, the UNBC women finished 4-16 and out of the playoff picture.

The men on the other hand tallied a 9-11 mark but went on a magical postseason run securing a bronze medal at the conference tournament in Winnipeg – the first in school history,.

Playoffs will revert back to a multi-site format in 2024-25, with all games hosted by the higher seed.

The top seven teams from the Prairie Division and top five teams from the BC Division will advance to the playoffs based on their league standing using win/loss record.

Single elimination play-in games will take place Feb. 21 and 22, featuring #12 at #5, #11 at #6, #10 at #7 and #9 at #8.

Single elimination semifinals will take place the following weekend, with a winner-takes-all final set for March 7 or 8.

UBC will host the 2025 U SPORTS men’s and women’s basketball championships at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre and War Memorial Gym.

The women’s event begins March 13, with the men’s draw starting the following day.

The national championship finals will be played on March 16.
