Prince George Special Olympics track athletes excel at Smithers meet

The Special Olympics Prince George Track Team were in Smithers competing in the 2024 SOBC Region 7 and 8 Athletics Regional Qualifier held on June 29th.

The eleven Prince George athletes put on an incredible showing, bringing home plenty of hardware:

  • Ruth Caldwell – Firsts in mini javelin and the 100m, thirds in standing long jump and shotput
  • Carla Caputo – Firsts in 800m, 400m, 200m, mini javelin, seconds in 100m and shotput
  • Chase Caron – First in 100m, seconds in running long jump and mini javelin, third in shotput
  • David Dunn – Firsts in 1500m, 3000m amd running long jump second in 800,
  • Tyler LeFebvre – Firsts in 25M wheelchair and 30m wheelchair slalom, second in mini javelin and third in shotput
  • Audrey Nelson – Firsts in mini javelin, shotput and 100m, and second in standing long jump
  • Dallas Poole – Second in 100m, and thirds in 200m and shotput
  • Spencer Rourke – Firsts in 200m and shotput, second in standing long jump
  • Adam Spokes – First in running long jump, seconds in mini javelin and shot put
  • Marinka Van Hage – First in 100, second in 200m and 400, and third in shotput and mini javelin,
  • Randella Willier – First in 200m, standing long jump and shot put, second in mini javelin.

The group from Prince George consisted of new and seasoned athletes.

They were also competing for a chance to represent Prince George in the 2025 Special Olympics being held in Prince George in 2025.
