BC Wildfire Service crews making progress on blazes between PG and McBride

Crews are making good progress on the fires that started during the July 10 and 11 lightning event between Prince George and McBride, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

“Of the 18 fires remaining in the Prince George Fire Zone and the Robson Valley Fire Zone, four of them are under control, one’s being held, 12 are out of control, and three are extinguished,” said Fire Information Officer Adam Nicholas.

He added crews have made good progress in the fire burning in Ancient Forest Park.

“The southside has been challenging as well as fire suppression methods because of the ecological and cultural values of it, as well as the terrain,” he explained.

With another hot week on tap for the Prince George area, Nicholas added more fire activity is anticipated in the area.

“The organic layer exposed to the open air dries out first, which is usually fine fuels such as twigs, leaves, things that enable the start of a fire after a lightning strike or human activity,” he explained.

Nicholas said they’re encouraging people to stay updated through the BC Wildfire Service app.
