PG’s unemployment rate stays at 4.4% in July

Over the past 12 months, the jobless mark in Prince George has been slashed in half.

After coming in at 8.8% in July of 2023 – the unemployment rate has remained at 4.4 the last two months according to Stats Canada.

Labour Division Analyst, Vince Ferrao told MyPGNow.com the city only saw a small jump in the people employed.

“There is a little bit more employment. In July, we had 56,700 and in June there were 56,300 – just slightly more than the previous month.”

BC’s unemployment rate spiked to 5.5% in July after it was 5.2 the month prior but is still second-lowest among the provinces trailing only Saskatchewan.

The national mark remained unchanged at 6.4%.

Their report says that total employment was “little changed” with 2,800 jobs lost in the month.

Average hourly wages were up 5.2 per cent year-over-year in July, easing from a rate of 5.4 per cent in June.

Surprise visit brings big smiles to boy battling cancer in Quesnel

A young man battling eye cancer received a surprise visit over the Canada Day long weekend by a car club and motorcycle club in Quesnel. Over 50 vehicles from the Prospector’s Car Club and the Dangerous Curves Motorbike Club drove by and filled the dead-end roads near Kellen Harper-Frederiko’s house, with well wishes, toys to give to Kellen, and chances for him to sit in and on cars and bikes.

Some Northern Interior Health Unit services moving next year

Northern Health's Northern Interior Health Unit (NIHU) will be making a move in spring 2026.  According to Northern Health, the current NIHU building will be deconstructed after the move to make space for the tower.
