First Prince George “All Candidates” meeting talks Economics

The first Prince George “All Candidates Meeting” was held Wednesday night.

Election hopefuls from the Cariboo-Prince George and Prince George-Peace River ridings gathered to talk about the economy and answer questions from the public.

Green party candidate Richard Jaques spoke about lowering the small business tax from 12% down to 9%.

“The back bone of most of these small communities are the small businesses” said Jaques. “That takes that extra three percent that they have either to retool, upgrade, hire more people, make their business stronger…it’s good for business.

Jaques also said raising corporate taxes is a priority for the Green Party.

Independent candidate Sheldon Clare spoke about the need for stability.

“We have to bolster a diverse economy by supporting agriculture, forestry and our other renewable resources to make sure that we can provide opportunities for people now and well into the future.” said Clare.

Absent from the meeting were both Conservative candidates Todd Doherty and Bob Zimmer.

The next all candidates meeting will take place at the College of New Caledonia on October 7th.

Candidates will be discussing Bill C-51 and the rights of Canadians.
