PG Cougars, City of PG sign new four-year agreement

The Prince George Cougars haven’t played a game yet this season but have already secured a major victory.

Today (Tuesday), the City of Prince George and the Cougars signed a new four-year license agreement for the CN Centre.

The previous agreement between the City and EDGEPRO Sports and Entertainment Ltd. (the owners of the Cougars) expired on July 31st, and the new agreement extends through 2028, with an option to extend for an additional four years.

Under the agreement, the City will receive an annual flat fee for ticket sales and commissions on additional ticket sales, food, and beverage revenue.

The City will also receive a 50% split with the Cougars on private suite rental fees at the CN Centre.

“The Prince George Cougars are deeply woven into the fabric of the CN Centre, Prince George, and Northern British Columbia,” said Glen Mikkelsen, CN Centre Manager.

“We are fortunate to have such a special group of people owning, managing, and operating the Club. Not every community or venue is as lucky to have a team that values partnership. We look forward to the excitement and energy that the Cougars and their talented players will continue to bring to our community.”

“We’re really happy to have it done, in light of some stuff that came up earlier this offseason, it shows everybody that the Cougars are in Prince George, and we are here to stay in Prince George,” said Cougars Director of Business Taylor Dakers.

“The deal itself is a necessary thing for junior hockey teams, and it meant a little bit more this year getting it done, but the deal itself is great to have out of the way.”

The Cougars have been a part of the city since 1994.

They begin the 2024-2025 WHL regular season this weekend when they host the Spokane Chiefs Friday (7pm) and Saturday (6pm).
