Kittens living in a possible abandoned home taken to Prince George SPCA

Seven kittens around nine weeks in age were rescued from what appeared to have been an abandoned home in Fort St. James.

The BC SPCA had received a complaint of a dozen cats staying there, and when an animal protection officer arrived, the home had broken glass outside and garbage scattered inside.

BC SPCA Senior Officer Protection and Stakeholder Relations, Eileen Drever says the kittens appeared shortly after.

“She yelled out looking for an owner or caregiver and nobody responded, but all of a sudden one little kitten jumped up onto the window ledge and then out. Then another one popped out, and another one popped out.”

As the kittens wouldn’t leave the officer’s side in the rain, she decided to take them into the SPCA’s care, transporting them to the shelter in Prince George.

From there, they were treated with flea medication, taking staff a couple of hours to comb out all the dead fleas, then were dewormed and given parasite control medication.

Now they have been transported by the BC SPCA’s Drive for Lives program to Coquitlam, where they’re up for adoption, with one kitten already adopted.

More information about the kittens can be found on the BC SPCA’s website here.
