From South Korea to New York: PG’s Jared Young signs with the Mets

Jared Young looks to take a bite out of the Big Apple next season.

The 29-year-old from Prince George signed a one-year contract with the New York Mets today (Tuesday).

Young split last season with the Memphis Red Birds, the AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Organization.

In 74 games with the Red Birds, Young hit .285 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI’s.

During his 38-game stint in Doosan, the PG native delivered 10 home runs and 39 RBI’s as well as 16 doubles to go along with his .326 batting average.

Young who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB draft, spent most of his eight-year career in the minors, the last few at the triple-a level with the Iowa Cubs.

The 29-year-old has 22 games of major league experience with the Cubs posting two home runs, eight RBI’s and a .210 batting average.

Young will compete for a roster spot in camp with the Mets during Spring Training.

Special Olympics PG gearing up for 29th Annual Charity Golf Classic

The excitement isn't quite done yet for Special Olympics Prince George athletes as they gear up to host the 29th Annual Prince George Charity Golf Classic on Saturday. "We've got 26 teams that have registered, we're full, it's a gunshot start," said Special Olympics Prince George Public Relations Coordinator Wilma Van Hage.
