GoFundMe launched for Prince George boy battling cancer

A young boy from Prince George is in Vancouver going through lengthy treatment for cancer.

After being diagnosed with a form of cancer in his ear, six-year-old Nixon along with his mom Lindsay are staying at the Ronald McDonald House close to the BC Children’s Hospital, where he’s going through chemotherapy.

Pamela Saulters, who worked alongside Lindsay, and who’s daughter had a similar diagnosis explains the emotional affects of going though treatments like these.

“It was horrible. You’re literally walking your child into treatments that physically hurt them, and will physically hurt their body for the rest of their life, and you’re doing that because it’s the only choice to keep your child alive.”

“Those days are really hard, and 11 years later, it’s still really hard to think about.”

Saulters says the road ahead is hard, spending nearly a year in Vancouver away from home and family, and continue to go Vancouver once or twice a year for check-ups, and will change to adult care once that time comes.

She added spending that much time dedicated on keeping your child alive, you’re not able to work, adding financial impact to an already difficult time, and having community support was an enormous relief.

Family friend, Lindsay Cote, along with a few others put together a GoFundMe to support Lindsay and Nixon in the financial needs.

“Lindsay is unable to continue to work. She obviously has to take care of her house in Prince George, and continue to live a life at Ronald McDonald House with Nixon through the duration of the treatment, while also exploring international treatment opportunities in Seattle, and the possibility of long stays out of the country.”

Cote says Lindsay has graciously supported Prince George at many levels throughout her life, adding that its our turn to step up and support her.

Those who wish to donate to support Lindsay and Nixon can find the GoFundMe page here.
