PG City Council Endorses TransCanada

Two TransCanada projects are being endorsed by the City of Prince George.

On Tuesday night City Council voted to write a letter supporting the Coastal GasLink Project and the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Project.

Council Member Jillian Merrick was the only Councillor opposed to the idea.

“I don’t think it’s the City of Prince George’s mandate to say what projects should go through or not, these are way more complicated than our city alone can decide.” said Merrick.

She also voiced concerns about potential labour shortages at cause of the projects.

“We already have a really tight labour sector. A lot of our contractors are short on employees” said Merrick “When these projects move forward are we going to have serious labour shortages in some of our other sectors?”

Mayor Lyn Hall was in favor of supporting TransCanada. He says they’ve been a good corporate citizen in the city.

He also says by commenting on the projects they can highlight concerns they may have as well as supporting TransCanada.
