Prince George will be a bit scarier in an upcoming film project

An upcoming film inspired by late 90’s early 2000’s horror will be shot in Prince George.

The film, Lies of a Monarch, follows Athelia who, after her boyfriend died, believed she found closure after a romantic date with Joseph, who’s enthusiasm with insects turn sinister when she becomes his new “butterfly”.

Filmmaker, Georgia Touchette, who’s from Prince George, says a reason they’re shooting here is to show more of the community and wilderness.

“We think it’s one of the best areas to have a horror film, and especially with the plot, because one of the characters is an entomologist.”

“We’re playing into that idea of like ‘ok, how can we really show the beauty, but also the really sinister element of Prince George?’.”

Touchette adds the end goal is to grow the film community in Northern BC, which she says can be done by bringing awareness to the community.

One way they look to accomplish that is by hopefully bringing it to different film festivals in Canada with the help of their soon to be released Kickstarter.

“If we are able to reach our goal, which is $27,800, or maybe even surpass it, we would be able to show this more. Not even just local film festivals, but outside, like in Ontario, maybe Quebec.”

The goal is to raise the money within 35 days starting March 20th, and will also help pay for cast and crew.

Filming will begin in July or August, with the hope of completion before October next year.

Touchette says the best way to stay up to date is either through their Facebook page or Instagram, and can support by emailing them at [email protected].
