Carrier Sekani Chief reacts to Highways of Tears email scandal

Carrier Sekani Tribal Chief Terry Teegee says he is disturbed by recent revelations that Highways of Tears email records were intentionally deleted to prevent them from becoming public.

He says someone needs to be held accountable.

“For the general public of BC, I think there’s a lot of mistrust with this government. It’s not only in the Ministry of Transport, it’s in other ministries. This culture of covering up and covering their tracks is known to be a regular practice”

“The RCMP definitely has to be involved and look at how this could happen. Someone has to be accountable and we need to understand how bad the situation is terms of this practice and this culture of deletion of emails.”

Teegee lost his cousin Ramona Wilson to the Highway of Tears.

The ministerial assistant responsible for deleting the emails has resigned and the RCMP are investigating him for perjury.
