Watchdog investigating after Vancouver man shot dead by police

British Columbia’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was shot and killed by police in Vancouver.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. said it was notified of the incident shortly after it happened Tuesday afternoon.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) said officers were called to a residential building around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Rupert Street and Vanness Avenue for a report of a neighbour dispute.

When officers arrived, they encountered one man who reportedly had a weapon, and the man was shot by police.

IIO said officers provided aid to the man until emergency responders arrived, but he subsequently died at the scene.

The watchdog investigates incidents of serious harm or death during police interactions, to determine if police action or inaction may have been the cause.
