PG Looks at Pine Valley Golf Course Upgrades

The Pine Valley Golf Course could be due for some upgrades.

The City is applying to the Northern Development Initiative Trust for a $9,000 grant to help fund a study of the golf course.

“We want to know the potential for the development of a driving range and how the course needs to be reconfigured” said Community Coordinator Doug Hofstede. “We have an aging irrigation system, so we want to know if it needs to be replaced or if it can be refurbished.”

If NDIT approves the city’s application, the grant would pay for roughly half of the study.

“Twenty-thousand dollars is our estimated budget. We won’t know exactly how much that will be until we do our request for proposals” said Hofstede. “The grant we’re asking for from NDIT is nine-thousand dollars of that.”

The Pine Valley Golf course included a driving range up until 2003 when the land was sold to a developer. Not long after the driving range was sold, the mountain pine beetle epidemic killed most of the mature trees on the course.

According to Hofstede, the losses have contributed to the declining popularity of the course.
