Parole denied for sex offender Bennett

One of Prince George’s most notorious criminals will remain behind bars after being denied parole last month.

Now 56 years old, Darren Bennett was originally arrested in 1997 alongside his then 19 year old common law wife for multiple child porn and sex crimes which took place in the pair’s Willow River home.

Bennett was eventually convicted of five counts of sexual assault, three counts of drugging his victims into compliance and three counts of publishing child pornography.

The victims ranged in age from 3 to 18.

In a decision rendered on December 15th, the Parole Board of Canada stated that although Bennett had verbalized some displays of remorse, his actions “had not been consistent with his words”

Over his incarceration, multiple psychological assessments put Bennett at a high risk for sexual and violent recidivism and a moderate risk for general recidivism. Prior to his arrest is 1997, Bennett already had about 50 previous convictions for impaired driving, property and assault charges.

The Parole Board acknowledged minor progress that has been made in the ‘Sex Offender Maintenance’ program since his last parole rejection in January 2014, however several other risk categories remain unchanged.

Designated as a dangerous offender, Bennett is serving an indefinite sentence.

His co-accused, Crystal Henricks reached statutory release in 2004.
