Avalanche East Of Prince George Prompts Search

PGSARlogoIt is not yet known if anyone has been injured in an avalanche northeast of Prince George…

A four-person Search and Rescue team has made its way into the Torpy area, approximately 100-kilometres from the city, via snowmobile.

Prince George SAR Search Manager, Dale Bull, says, “At this point, I don’t have reliable information as to how many people are in the party or the number of people actually involved in the avalanche itself.”

A 911 call came in shortly after noon today.  Bull says poor weather conditions at the time ruled out a helicopter operation, so the ground crew went in.

Bull believes the ground crew has arrived at the location of the remote snowslide, but he has not had direct contact with search personnel.  Given the darkness, he says the plan will probably be to ensure everyone’s safety overnight and re-evaluate the possibility of an air operation in the morning.

Bull says he has no reliable information on any injuries or fatalities at this time.
