Council heard a yearly review from the city’s solid waste services on Monday.
Workers picked up 29,670 kilograms of illegally dumped garbage around Prince George. They collected 24,960 kg the year before.
Solid Waste Management Sean LeBrun hopes people learn to dispose of garbage properly.
“It’s about educating the public. It’s about hoping to continue having people to report (illegal activity) but it’s also about enforcement and catching people who are doing this,” he says.
Councillor Brian Skakun feels the same way.
“One of the trails I go to, there’s a washing machine sitting there. They could’ve dumped that at a transfers station for free. So people are lazy and it’s just really unfortunate. I just hope administration can catch some of these folks and make examples of them because Prince George doesn’t deserve that.”
Waste services also picked up almost 16,500 kg of corporate recycled paper, which is up from 15,840 kg in 2014.
They also found 894 needles, up from 847 last year and 326 in 2014.
