Desjardins reflects on successful tenure with Capitals

The Northern Capitals will be going into unchartered territory next season.

After a three-year run as one of the top teams in the BC Female Midget AAA Hockey League which saw back to back provincial titles followed by a Mac’s Midget Championship in Calgary this year, the landscape of the team will look different next fall.

After getting eliminated in the Pacific Regionals by the Rocky Mountain Raiders this past weekend, nine players saw their midget hockey careers come to end.

Head Coach, Mario Desjardins says despite the disappointing finish, the veteran group has a lot to be proud of.

“Some of these girls have won five championships together and not all players can say that. It’s disappointing not to head to the Esso Cup but they worked and battled hard and they can hold their heads up high.”

Goaltender, Kelsey Roberts agrees with her coach’s sentiment. “We are a family, most of us have been together for three years or more and its really hard for this to be the final goodbye for some of us.”

The graduating players for the Capitals are Roberts, Sage Desjardins, Hunter Mosher, Grace Barlow, Victoria Byer, Sydney Jordan, Marissa Nichol and Casey Norris.

Roberts and Desjardins are heading to the University of Calgary next season while Mosher will suit up for Nipissing University in Ontario.
