The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has sounded off on Medical Service Premiums once again.
Through a Freedom of Information request, they found the province has written off over $340 million dollars of MSP tax debt since 2010.
The latest number is all the more reason to overhaul the program according to BC Director Jordan Bateman.
“To us, this is just another sign of how bad the tax is. As part of our effort to try and get the parties to recognize the tax needs to change and to get something in their platforms for the next election.”
In 2015, the B.C. government wrote off $41 million dollars in MSP tax which is a far cry from the $157.5 million that was written off in 2013.
In this year’s provincial budget, the province once again hiked MSP taxes which have increased 40% in the last 5 years.
