Volunteer PG celebrating 25 years, hires new General Manager

It’s been 25 years since Volunteer Prince George was formed.

Newly appointed General Manager, Sarah Foot states volunteers are the back-bone of major events around town.

“A high percentage of events are volunteer driven and that is helping to improve the quality of life here for us who want to participate in those events.”

Foot is also very passionate about the subject. “It’s been something I have done all my life because it’s really clear in the north, the volunteers are the key on what keeps the community going.”

This is especially true after the 2015 Canada Winter Games. “I think it was an incredible event and relied on volunteers, we had about 4500 which was fantastic and in those large-scale events there is also the day to day things that take place as well.”

The anniversary runs in conjunction with National Volunteer Week which began on Sunday and ends on Saturday.

Over 12.7 million Canadians donate their time to strengthen the fabric of communities.
