Reservations aplenty still for PG area provincial parks

Booking a long-weekend at your favourite provincial park in the Prince George area is still a possibility.

BC Parks Spokesperson, Nathalie Dechane says they have continued to build upon last year’s spike in reservations.

“In 2015, we processed 158,000 reservations which increased 18% from the previous year and we’re along that some trajectory this year too.”

Dechane adds most campers in BC can be summed up three groups. “Approximately 23% of our customers book as soon as possible while some people trickle in between and then you have late planners who wait and see what the weather is doing about 10 days before their arrival.”

Two popular spots include Mt. Robson and the Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit while other busy well-attended parks include Whiskers Point, Carp Lake Island, Crooked River and Purden Lake.

With the low Canadian dollar, more people in the province are staying close to home and heading to provincial parks.

On the flip side, the high American dollar is drawing more tourists from south of the border to Northern BC.
