For the first time in three months, the number of people receiving Employment Insurance in Prince George has gone up to the tune of 1.1%.
The year-over-year numbers also saw a jump of 17% which equates to 280 more people receiving benefits in the past year.
A number of factors are responsible for the spike in March according to Stats Canada Labour Division Analyst, Melissa Moyser.
“The changes in EI beneficiaries reflect a bunch of different situations including people becoming beneficiaries, people going back to work and others not receiving benefits.”
The provincial numbers saw a decrease of 1.0% in March with 52,560 people on pogge.
In March, 545,700 people are getting regular benefits in Canada which dropped 0.4%.
On the flip side, there was a spike of 8.1% in the number of EI claims made in B.C.
